"Beauty as we feel it is something indescribable: what it is or what it means can never be said."

George Santayana

"But it can be shared. When I encounter beauty, I am overcome with a desire to hold on to it, to possess it and to share it. There is an irresistable impulse to tell the world:

Look what I found. It, too, will enrich your life as it enriches mine."

As a young girl, during our nature walks and travels together, I used to see my father perform magic with his Minolta camera. This spark of passion "to see a world in a grain of sand" was lit at that time. I am constantly haunted by the transitory nature of beauty - be it in nature, people,architecture or travel. The sun that rises, a child at play, the rushing water under the bridge, the flower that blooms are all ongoing moments that soon pass.

I am now on a voyage of discovery that will last me a lifetime. A voyage on which there is room for us all. In the words of Nazim Hikmet:

"My eyes can't get enough of the trees,
They are so hopeful, so green..."

Come and join me.

Seniz Yoruk.

* * * * * *

Seniz Yoruk was born in Izmit, Turkey. Her mother is Munire Ozbey, the well-known artist, and her father, a former naval officer. In her parents' home, while growing up she was surrounded by objets d'art and the artist's paraphernalia. As a child, unbeknownest to her, these surroundings instilled tiny awakenings in Seniz and her inquiring mind. She graduated with a degree in International Relations from the Faculty of Political Science in Ankara.

Being married to a diplomat, Seniz lived in Golcuk, Istanbul, Izmir, Ankara, Brussels, Riyadh, Geneva and Ottawa. With an open mind, she took each city and its culture to her heart. But the aura of Turkey always never ceases to leave her. It constantly draws her back from wherever she may be in the world.

Seniz's serious interest in photography blossomed when she learned darkroom and studio techniques from a dear friend in Riyadh. Four years in Ottawa with its natural beauty and four seasons turned this interest into a full-blown passion. A membership in Ottawa's popular RA Photo Club in the company of talented photographers helped round off the rough edges. Seniz actively participated in the club's joint exhibits and several competitions where she won awards. She bid farewell by way of a tribute in her first exhibit "Seasons of Canada" held in March 2005 at Ottawa's prestigious National Press Club prior to departing Canada.

Seniz Yoruk participated in various other exhibits and international festivals. Her photographs are in private collections worldwide. She lives in Mumbai, India.
